Consultant Teacher Services (direct or indirect)

Special education teachers may provide consultant teacher services to students with disabilities who are enrolled in regular education classes. Direct or indirect services may be provided depending upon the needs of the child, for a minimum of two hours per week. The student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) will outline the specific needs to be addressed. Direct services are pushed into the regular ed classes and the teacher works specifically with the student. Indirect services provide service to the teacher and other staff to work with the student.
Consultant Teachers also provide preventative AIS support towards promoting early literacy skills in Kindergarten and first grade. Teachers focus on helping students with strategies through a combination of push in and pull out support. We have designated consultant support into every Kindergarten class and first grade classrooms (minimum of 2 X 30 and up to 5 X 30 per week).
