Concert

On Wednesday, March 7th the Staley, Ridge Mills, Bellamy, Gansevoort, Denti, Joy, Stokes, Strough, and RFA Bands will be presenting their annual “All City Band” concert at 7:00 in the RFA auditorium. The audience members will hear the full progression of band students in Rome – from the sixth grade band through the high school seniors. The event is free, but any donations will go to support the Rome Band Program.

This year, each elementary school once again has its own chorus, band, and orchestra.  Students from each of these bands will come together to open the concert as a single, united ensemble.  Elementary band teachers Bob Verminski, Aaron Decker, and Erica McMyler have been preparing the band students at each school.  The combined 6th grade band will be playing “Ceremonial March” by Brian Balmages and “Boot Sootin’ Barn Dance” by Ron Cowherd.

Next the Strough ensembles will perform. The Prep Band will play the popular song “Sorry” by Justin Bieber and “Blaze!” by Rob Romeyn.  The Strough Concert Band will be playing “Colonel Bogey March” by Kenneth Alford, and “HandClap” arranged by Paul Murtha.

The RFA bands will also each present a piece composed by Buffalo native Rossano Galante: the Concert Band will perform “Whispers from Beyond” and the Wind Ensemble will play “Transcendent Journey.”

Throughout the concert, the audience will be able to see how a student progresses through the Rome City School District bands from beginner to expert.  The elementary bands are under the direction of Robert Verminski, Aaron Decker, and Erica McMyler, the Strough bands are under the direction of Anne Gannon, and the RFA Bands are under the direction of Jake Meiss.  The concert will conclude with a rousing finale: The Stars and Stripes Forever performed by all of the combined bands – over 300 students!  Meiss says “‘The Stars and Stripes’ has become our traditional closer, and I think it’s fitting – it’s one of the classics of band literature and our official national march.”
