Related Services

Related Services are provided to students with disabilities throughout the district. A student may receive speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing services, and/or counseling. The frequency, duration, and location of the services are specified within the Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Students may receive any combination of the above services based on qualifying for the service. Speech and language services are provided for a minimum of two thirty minute sessions each week. Other related services are provided based on need. The Rome CSD provides related services both in the regular ed or special ed classrooms as well as servicing students in a therapy room.

Speech Therapists provide Phonemic Awareness support into Kindergarten and first grade (new for 09-10) classrooms. Each K-4 building has therapy time built into their schedule to go into the classrooms, model lessons, support the teacher and provide intervention for PA. K teachers check student progress throughout the year and the ST (or Consultant teacher or Reading teacher) can provide remedial support on the targeted skill.
