Across NYS

On May 16th and 17th, the following Rome City School District (RCSD) staff presented at the New York Association for the Education of Young Children (NYAEYC) Annual Conference held at Turning Stone Resort: Dana Benzo, Director of Elementary Programs; Nikki Roberts, Kindergarten Teacher at Joy; Megan Probst, Kindergarten Teacher at Joy; Mary Muttillo, Kindergarten Teacher at Bellamy; Sherry Fleet, PreK SEIT at Clough; Jennifer Hummel, Instructional Coach at Bellamy; and Stephanie Darcangelo, Instructional Coach at Gansevoort.

The team presented two sessions: "Learning From PreK: Meeting the PreK-3 NGLS Standards Through Inquiry-Based Teaching" and "From Letter of the Week to Inquiry-Based Learning: The Trials, Tribulations, and Rewards" to administrators and teachers across NYS.

As an NYS Pyramid Model Implementation District, the RCSD team was excited to meet Tucker the Turtle. Tucker the Turtle is a fun, interactive resource created to help children and families learn strategies to manage big feelings like anger. Tucker allows parents and caregivers to support their children in understanding how to calm their bodies and emotions. This user-friendly resource helps teach emotional regulation with a few simple steps. Tucker the Turtle promotes emotional literacy, problem-solving, and self-regulation in an engaging way for PreK-Grade 2.
