We are thrilled to announce that Amanda Bevilacqua has been selected as the Rome City School District Teacher of the Year!
Amanda, a 4th-grade teacher at John E. Joy Elementary, exemplifies what it means to be an extraordinary educator—dedicated, innovative, and deeply committed to student success. "Her passion for teaching, ability to inspire, and unwavering support for both students and colleagues make her truly deserving of this honor," said Nerlande Anselme, Rome City School District Superintendent.
With 22 years of service in the RCSD, Amanda’s impact reaches far beyond the classroom. She is a fierce advocate for her fellow educators, serving as a representative for the Rome Teachers Association (RTA) and collaborating with administration to ensure seamless classroom transitions in her absence.
Amanda's message to new teachers "Seek out veteran teachers, ask for their advice, and have an open mind. Talk to your principals, get to know people, but follow your heart. You know what is best for you your classroom and your students."
Her student-centered and dynamic teaching approach incorporates modeling techniques, problem-solving strategies, and cross-curricular instruction to engage students and deepen their understanding. By fostering small-group instruction and hands-on learning experiences, Amanda creates a classroom environment where students thrive. The results speak for themselves—her 4th-grade students have shown remarkable growth in both math and reading this school year!
Amanda was nominated for this honor by Kristen Semo, a parent of a former student, a testament to the lasting impact she has on the lives of those she teaches.
As our district’s Teacher of the Year, Amanda’s name will be submitted to represent Rome City Schools as a candidate for the prestigious New York State Teacher of the Year honor.
Please join us in celebrating Amanda Bevilacqua for her outstanding contributions to education, her ability to inspire greatness, and the lasting impact she has on her students and colleagues.
Congratulations, Amanda! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students and shaping the future of our community.
