Staff Spotlight for Wednesday, November 8 - Holly Small

Holly Small is a Reading Specialist at Gansevoort Elementary School

How long have you worked in the RCSD?
I have been working within the RCSD for 21 years now.  However, I have been teaching for a total of 22 years.

What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy teaching my students the foundations of reading and watching them develop and expand their reading abilities.  I love working in small groups with my students and making meaningful connections with every one of them.  I enjoy making learning fun and seeing my students’ happy faces.

What inspires you?
Many of my colleagues within the RCSD have inspired me throughout the years.  Their time, passion for teaching, and desire to learn new methods/strategies for teaching motivates me to do more myself as an educator.  Furthermore, over the past 21 years in the RCSD, the students have inspired me.  I enjoy seeing their “aha” moments when they grasp new skills taught to them.  I love seeing the smiles, laughter, kindness, and strength they gain in themselves each year.

What is a fun fact about you?
I am an avid, outdoorsy person.  I love exploring nature, walking, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, and boating.  I am a soccer, baseball, and bowling mom, and I often spend my weeknights and weekends attending my boys’ sporting events.
