Evie Denton, an incoming senior at RFA, was honored with the All-CNY Girls Golf Player of the Year award on June 22 at the Schine Student Center in Syracuse. During the spring season, Denton, among the three RFA athletes nominated for an All-CNY sports award, emerged as the most exceptional female golfer in Section III. Her parents, Julie Grow Denton, and Robert J. Denton, Jr., expressed pride in Evie’s achievements, highlighting her consistent placement on the high honor roll, enrollment in college-level classes, and playing the violin in the symphony orchestra.
Denton’s coach, David Petrelli, commended her unwavering determination and coachability. “Evie is one of the most determined young ladies that I’ve ever had during my tenure as a coach. She is a hard worker who will not quit when things get tough. She will continue to work until the task at hand is completed. She is so focused on the golf course that nothing seems to rattle her. Just a super coachable player who will accomplish many things in life,” he said.
Denton’s guidance counselor Maureen Nash praised her as a top-notch student who consistently sets and attains her goals. “Evie is one of the hardest working students I have come across in my years in education. She is always focused on the task at hand and ready to handle difficult assignments and projects and is always looking to improve,” she said.
While Denton’s home course for the varsity team is Rome Country Club, she also enjoys playing at Teugega Country Club, where she works as a bag girl, as well as Crestwood Golf Club and occasionally Shenandoah Golf Course at Turning Stone, according to her mother.
Looking ahead to her future, Denton is interested in pursuing a public relations/communications major. However, her final plans after graduating from RFA next spring remain to be seen. The progress of her journey will be closely followed by many eager to witness her continued success.
The members of Evie's family are all RFA graduates. Her father is a member of the Class of 1984; her mother is a member of the Class of 1987; and her brother Jonathan is a member of the Class of 2021.
