Team 1 from Rome Free Academy won the overall competition at this year’s Oneida County Envirothon and will represent Oneida County, the Rome City School District, and Rome Free Academy at the State-level competition, to be held at SUNY Cortland, May 28–29—marking their second consecutive year advancing to the state level.
Additional results from the competition include:
Team 6, consisting of Alastair Maxwell, Ethan Larrabee, and Louisa Morgan, placed 1st in the Wildlife Competition.
Team 2, consisting of Janai Haden, Charlie Johnson, Arwen Reddick, Ella Vescio, and Alexis Voci, placed 2nd in the Current Event Competition.
Team 1, consisting of Rachel Catello, Molly Colmey, Kayeden Secor, Karl vanHoesel, and Aiden Winters, also placed 2nd in the Soils Competition.
"Special congratulations to Rachel Catello and Aiden Winters, who were members of last year's winning team as well as this year's—an impressive back-to-back accomplishment," said RFA Science Teacher, Mr. Buchanan.
Each member of the winning team also earned a $1,000 college scholarship.
In addition to their performance in the Soils category, Team 1 was one of only three teams in the county selected to present their proposal on climate adaptation forest management policies to help protect the Adirondack Park.
