Dollars for Scholars

Rome Dollars for Scholars held its 38th annual award ceremony on Wednesday June 1, 2022 in the auditorium at Rome Free Academy.  Sixty- eight RFA seniors received scholarships. Eight continuing scholarships were also acknowledged.  A total of $83,810 was distributed by the chapter.  Scholarships ranging from $500- $3000 were given to students planning on attending vocational schools and two and four-year colleges.  "The winners of tonight’s scholarships are accomplished high achieving young people who should be proud to be here tonight. High school was not a smooth path for these young adults. Their high school experience was unlike anything anyone ever imagined for them. However as I wrote this script for tonight’s program and read their applications I was really amazed at how much they did over the last four years despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic. Stay home orders and the worry involved with that and with Covid undoubtedly caused them some stress and anxiety. It was however inspiring to read how they got through that and all that they accomplished despite it. They really are a strong resilient outstanding group of young people. What they accomplished despite the unbelievable hurdles placed in front of them is really amazing," said RFA Guidance Counselor and RDFS Board Member, Shelley Skibitski.

New
Scholarships were given in memory of Donna M. Wenz, Jasmine Millner and
Nina Daniello.  Longtime Dollars for Scholars board member Cynthia
Arthur was honored for her service to the organization.
