Continuing its annual tradition, the Rome City School District Food Service Program once again provided nourishing meals to children and teenagers this year at six parks. “The summer feeding program is a Federally Funded Program and meals are served to anyone 18 and under for free. This year, we expanded to Lee Town Park. I would like to especially thank the Lee Town Board for giving us the opportunity to serve meals at Lee Town Park. It was a huge success this year,” said Chris Whitmore, Director of Food Service for the District.
“The primary objective of the Summer Feeding Program is to assist parents in managing the increased costs of groceries during the summer months while also ensuring that children receive delicious and nutritious food. The program typically runs from July 3rd to August 18th, providing meals at the City parks. The participation has been consistent throughout the season, with the program serving a substantial number of lunches, including 900 at its peak (per day) across all the parks and additional service sites,” said Whitmore
The program's success is attributed to the participation of the community, emphasizing the importance of providing children with quality meals during the summer months. This effort not only positively impacts their health but also aids in their overall growth and development. The program's organizers express their gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to its success.
