A total of 58 eighth-grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on Thursday, October 24, at Strough Middle School. Honor society advisers Mrs. Amanda Allen and Mrs. Jennifer Fitzgerald were present alongside Strough Principal Tracy O’Rourke. Five students participated in a candle-lighting ceremony, with candles symbolizing five categories: Scholarship, Lucas Schwock; Service, Paetyn Finley; Character, Justin Mudry; Leadership, Sloane Sestito; and Citizenship, Lars van Hoesel. The Strough eighth-grade orchestra, directed by Mrs. Tracie Forbes, provided entertainment.
To qualify for NJHS, students must have a seventh-grade grade-point average of 89.5 or higher and excel in scholarship, character, service, leadership, and citizenship. They also must write an essay and provide teacher and adult recommendations, along with a list of activities in which they participate.
