How long have you worked in the RCSD?
This is my 25th school year in the Rome City School District.
What do you like most about your job?
The best part of my job is getting to know students and figuring out the best way to support them when they face challenges within their educational program. It is especially rewarding when students overcome their difficulties and encounter success with the support given. Hearing about former students who eventually accomplished various goals, like making the Honor List in their later school years, gaining a higher level of independence, or attending a post-secondary program, makes all of the work in the early years’ worth it.
What inspires you?
What inspires me most are the students and teachers. The students…. those who may not find learning to be easy, or children facing hard times outside of school, yet they still show up each day and try their best. These children are the superheroes, facing challenges every day, whether it be with reading, writing, math, self-control, etc., and yet they continue to arrive at school working to improve. And the teachers…. the unsung heroes who work tirelessly each and every day to give all of their students what they need to find success. Not only do the teachers find ways to connect with their students and teach the required academics, but also ensure their basic needs are met, and advocate for what they need. Our students and teachers do inspiring things every single day, often without even realizing it.
What is a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me that most people don’t know is that I grew up living next door to my grandparent’s dairy farm. A place of wonderful childhood memories and valuable life lessons. Another fun fact is that I love taking sunset pictures, cooking, and party planning!
