Wednesday Worker of the Week is Nikki Roberts, John Joy Kindergarten Teacher
How long have you worked for the district?
17 years
What do I like most about my job?
I love seeing the children’s faces light up when they learn something new. I can honestly say Kindergarten is a magical place and also the most important for many reasons. It's where the children can grow, explore and learn. As author Robert Fulgham once said “Everything you need to know you learned in Kindergarten”. This is pretty accurate if you ask any Kindergarten teacher. It takes a special person to teach Kindergarten and I am so glad that I get to do it on a daily basis. I have a quote on my door which I say every time I walk through it, it says “The future of the world is in my classroom today” that is something that I keep in mind each day as the children walk through my door.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my colleagues in education. I always feel like I can do better and when I need inspiration I do not have to look far. I honestly just have to open my classroom door and look around. I feel incredibly lucky to have great mentors and educators right in front of me. I do not hesitate to reach out to my colleagues to get a better understanding of a child's needs to help them succeed.
What is a fun fact about you?
I enjoy reading, traveling and live music.
